Social eMotion (c) 2011
January 2012 Announcements
A New Home!
(In December actually) Social eMotion took up new digs in the Khan Incubator in Cary. Our new
office space offers a great collection of entrepreneurial neighbors, better customer meeting and
working space and some ability to expand as we continue to grow.
A New Family Member!
After working as a consultant and advisor since July of 2011, Matt Karash has officially joined the
Social eMotion team as Vice President, Sales and Marketing. Matt brings 15 years of technology
start-up company experience to the team. Most recently, he was President of NBMK Encryption
Technologies, Inc.
And Many More Family Members!
In late January, Social eMotion acquired Savvy Dollar (www.savvydollar.org) from its founder Dan
Griffin. Savvy Dollar is a North Carolina online community of over 15,000 members focused on
helping its members save money at local businesses. Savvy Dollar is a logical fit for Social
eMotion, as the Savvy Dollar community is already engaged with many of the same merchants in
discussion with Social eMotion. This cross pollination between communities creates a greater
opportunity for Social eMotion, the local merchants, and the local shoppers.

Even Better miPlaces!
After working hard to collect and incorporate customer feedback, our development team has
added important new features to miPlaces. Most notably, users now have the ability to opt-in at a
merchant level and also at a specific category level within each merchant. The result is a more
targeted and relevant communication between merchant and customer.
Non-Smartphone Functionality Added!
miPlaces’ full feature set is designed for smartphone users (Android and iPhone), but miPlaces
now also supports non-smartphone users via SMS text message and/or email digest options.

On Display at Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Expo 12!
Thank you to our many supporters who made us the leading vote-getter in the Greater Raleigh
Chamber of Commerce Start-up Alley contest. We won the chance to exhibit in Start-up Alley at
the 2012 Business Expo conference at the Raleigh Convention Center on May 3, 2012. If you will
be at the conference, please stop by and say ‘hi.’

June 2012 Announcements
Trailblazer Launch Underway!
Started in late May and pushing through the summer, we are launching a "Trailblazer" group of
merchant customers together. The group will be diverse across a number of business types, so
we can learn as much as possible about different uses for miPlaces. We are incredibly grateful to
the "Trailblazer" group! Thank you for partnering with us! You can find the growing list of
miPlaces merchants at http://www.miplaces.com/partners.htm.
We Need Community Member "Trailblazers" Too!
With the gradual addition of diverse merchants over the summer, we are adding miPlaces
community members at a rapid pace. We are working incredibly hard to improve miPlaces and
are looking for community members who will help by providing feedback. PLEASE connect with
us, help us improve our product and help us build a great service for you. There is a feedback
button prominent in the app, or you can reach us at support@miplaces.com.
Non-Facebook Login Door to Open Very Soon!
Our preference is still that community members use Facebook for their log in. Some current
features (i.e. ability to get 'suggested' places from Facebook friends) and a significant portion of
our future plans leverage your social network to provide better recommendations on where to
shop or eat. But we recognize that not everyone has a Facebook account and also that some do
not feel comfortable using Facebook to log into an app that is still new to them. (We hope the
latter will change as you get to know us.) Starting mid-July, we will offer non-Facebook login
options. If you want a quick notification when this becomes available, please tell us at
support@miplaces.com.

New team members, indirectly!
Social eMotion has entered the Venture Mentoring Service at the Center for Entrepreneurial
Development. We gained two advisors who are seasoned tech start-up veterans, both with
mobile experience. Thanks to the CED for this great program that helps companies like ours
grow.
Preparing to flip the switch!
We are now a little more than 2 months into our "Trailblazer" program with good results. We
continue to learn from and with our early customers, both merchants and community members.
We are preparing to start adding additional merchants at a faster pace. We challenge current
community members to tell one friend about miPlaces and any non-members reading this to join
miPlaces with the goal of helping a local tech company.
